But it seems to indicate Haixingren do the European duvet + duvet cover thing and not the US sheet with a blanket on top? (Which I can't stand.)

Yes, apparently! I have noticed that, too - although in fic where some perceptive author described it exactly like that, and only then I went to check and verified it. I wouldn't have noticed it, myself. *g*
